Overview

Theon and Axel confront the Night Children leaders, learning nine masked envoys urged Tessa’s death; dissent has splintered the clans. Provoked by Henry, Theon kills him, reasserting control. With Tessa still unconscious, Theon presses Cienna and Gia for answers, learning Tessa’s father is a god and fate is malleable—but costly.

Summary

Theon and Axel cross to the House of Four to confront the Night Children leaders. In the council chamber, Bree, Cade, Rayell, and Henry admit nine hooded, masked envoys urged them to ensure Tessa’s death, predicting catastrophe if she lived. Some clans saw defections; Cade’s Jagger broke away after Cade refused.

Henry, resentful and persuaded by the envoys’ accurate prophecies, claims Tessa threatens Arius blood. When Henry taunts that Tessa is a poison already rooted in Arius, Theon lethally demonstrates his power, stabbing Henry and extracting his blackened heart, warning future leaders against revolt. He and Axel depart, having reasserted dominance amid rising unrest.

Back at the penthouse, Tessa remains unconscious and emotionally distant through the bond. Theon wrestles with returning to Arius House and with pressures from his father Valter, including his Match to Felicity, which he has not told Tessa. Luka urges appeasing Valter superficially while guarding deeper truths.

Summoned to Cienna, Theon confronts the Witch and Gia over Tessa’s condition and withheld answers. Cienna insists Tessa will wake when ready and challenges Theon’s demands. Pressed for direct facts, Cienna states Tessa was not born in this realm, is not a Legacy, and that her father is a god while her mother wields power akin to a Lesser. When Theon pushes further, Cienna threatens with blades, then counsels that fate can be changed by choices, though the struggle will leave scars.
