14. Axel

Axel, Theon, Luka, and Katya reach their Underground penthouse with an unconscious Tessa. Theon cannot feel his bond to Tessa and uses dwindling magic with Axel to hold her sternum wound closed. Katya brings water to assess bleeding. Gia, a Healer sent by Cienna, arrives and, despite Theon’s suspicion, begins treating Tessa’s chest and throat wounds.

Stress boils over. Theon accuses Axel of failing to foresee Night Children unrest and the ambush. Axel, drained of power and blood, storms out to find a Healer and supplies. On Cienna’s advice, he brings Katya, though he fears his own bloodlust around her.

Crossing districts toward the Dispensary, Axel diverts to the Apparel District, paying Samson—by Bargain Mark—for Turner’s location. Katya, exhausted after heavy magic use, confronts Axel about his pace and needs. Their charged exchange culminates in a consensual kiss, which Axel halts before bloodlust or desire overrides judgment.

They find Turner, who provides a large bottle of blood only if Axel convinces the Night Children clan leaders to return a stolen, rare Legacy-killing weapon. Axel, desperate, accepts by Bargain, drinks to restore his reserves, and plans to get Katya fresh clothing before returning to the penthouse.

Resolved to address the Underground crisis, Axel intends to confront the clan leaders—bringing Theon if trust remains strained—while Gia continues working on Tessa, whose condition and silent bond keep the stakes high.
