46. Tessa
Overview
Tessa unintentionally summons pale Hunters, who massacre the Augury. She personally executes the Legacy who banded her and orders Valter and Eviana kept alive. Auryon and Tristyn arrive, revealing the beings are Hunters of Arius blood and confirming Tessa’s lineage. Spurning Tristyn, Tessa claims agency and vows to end Valter’s line.
Summary
Reeling and bloodied, Tessa confronts the pale beings she summoned. They call her “my grace,” offer service, and descend upon the frozen Augury, their golden blades cutting while mortal weapons pass through them. Tessa embraces her fury and directs the slaughter.
When the Legacy who banded her falls, Tessa stays the Hunter, takes its blade, and executes the man herself, fulfilling her promise. Roan and Niylah join the battle, aiding the Hunters as the Augury collapse under the onslaught. Tessa orders that the Arius Lord, Valter, and his Source, Eviana, be kept alive.
Auryon arrives with Tristyn Blackheart and destroys several beings with enchanted arrows. Tristyn reveals the truth: the pale beings are Hunters who exist to kill descendants of Arius. The implication exposes Tessa’s own Arius lineage. Tristyn removes her bands and pleads to take her to Lilura Inquest; Tessa confronts him about lies, Lilura, and his motives, then refuses.
A Hunter threatens Auryon, naming Temural, confirming that only he can send a Huntress—linking Auryon’s service to Tessa’s father. Auryon withdraws; Tristyn Travels away. Empowered as her magic feeds on the dying, Tessa strides through the parted Hunters to Valter, who kneels with blades at his throat.
Tessa declares her intent: not to end the realm but to end the Legacy’s imbalance. She promises to eradicate Valter’s bloodline and make him witness its fall before taking his life.
