Tyrion and Sansa share a strained supper, revealing Sansa’s anxious deference and Tyrion’s frustrated attempts at kindness. Sansa departs for solitary prayers in the godswood, while Tyrion wrestles with Littlefinger’s opaque ledgers and the costly debts hidden within.

Summoned to the Tower of the Hand, Tyrion finds Tywin, Cersei, Kevan, Pycelle, and an elated Joffrey. A cryptic Frey message announces Robb Stark’s death and Edmure Tully’s capture. Tywin predicts the Riverlands will submit, orders Harrenhal cleansed of the Brave Companions, and plans lenient terms—save ruthless exceptions.

Joffrey demands Robb’s head to torment Sansa, prompting Tyrion to confront him. Tywin coolly rebukes the king’s bravado, dismisses him with dreamwine, and chastises Cersei for raising a willful, foolish boy. After Joffrey is removed, Tywin confirms secret coordination with Walder Frey and criticizes Tyrion’s loose tongue.

Turning to Dorne, Tywin deems Oberyn volatile and refuses to yield Gregor Clegane, planning instead to blame the dead Amory Lorch for Elia and her children. He justifies past crimes as necessary for Baratheon legitimacy, admitting Elia’s death sprang from omission and Gregor’s brutality, not explicit command.

Tywin details rewards and political settlements: Riverrun for Emmon Frey, marriages binding Freys to Lannisters, Roose Bolton named Warden of the North, and a supposed Arya Stark sent to wed Ramsay Bolton. He intends the North to pass eventually to Tyrion’s children by Sansa, prompting Tyrion’s bitter question about telling Sansa of her family’s murder.
