Roman arrives home at sunrise after the night's grim work and falls into a fitful sleep. He dreams of his mother, whose face hovers just out of reach, calling him 'my summer child' before he wakes.

Downstairs around ten, Roman makes coffee and is met by Neveah, who notes Dante never came home. Roman lies smoothly, saying Dante left with a girl after they had drinks. He reflects internally on how alike the three siblings are in their unconscious mannerisms, and how their family bonds run deep. Neveah pushes back, suspecting whatever is happening between the brothers ties back to their father, and warns Roman she will eventually figure it out.

Neveah asks Roman to cover the funeral home office at one o'clock while she drives to Richmond to pay a license fee. She also mentions a cop friend, Chauncey, who is willing to informally ask around about the attack on Roman and Dante. Roman, panicked at the thought of police poking near the crematory, deflects and fabricates a story that Dante was likely sleeping with someone's wife or girlfriend, and that they don't want to provoke retaliation. Neveah, unconvinced and frustrated, leaves to get ready for work.

Roman then calls Khalil, who is sightseeing at the Edgar Allan Poe Museum in Richmond. Roman arranges for Khalil to come to his father's house at five so they can strategize. Khalil confirms he has retrieved 'that thing' from Ms. Billings. Roman reflects on his reputation as a habitual problem solver and a 'crow' always watching for opportunity. He intends to treat the Black Baron Boys as a problem to be solved, combining his knowledge of money with Khalil's strategic mind to crack their foundation.
