Chapter Eighty-Two: Amari

Overview

Amari and Tzain battle palace guards in the temple while Zélie collapses in grief. King Saran fatally strikes Inan and moves to behead him, disowning his son. Amari intervenes and openly defies Saran, marking a decisive break with her father and escalating the family and national conflict.

Summary

Amari cuts through charging guards with ruthless focus, fueled by grief and rage over the lives destroyed by King Saran, including Binta’s. Beside her, Tzain fights through tears, the pair forcing a path amid the chaos in the temple.

Across the chamber, Zélie collapses, ash slipping through her fingers, drawing Amari’s attention. As Amari pivots, she sees King Saran drive a sword into a supposed guard. The fallen boy’s helmet rolls away, revealing Inan.

Horror freezes Amari as blood pours from Inan’s mouth. Memories of their shared childhood flash through her as she realizes Saran has mortally wounded his own son. Saran raises his blade to finish the job by taking Inan’s head.

Inan pleads “Father, please,” but Saran crushes his hand and spits that Inan is no son of his. Amari rushes forward and confronts Saran, declaring his blood the true curse, signaling her open break with him and a decisive stand against his brutality.
