Chapter Thirty-Seven: Amari

Overview

As Zélie and Inan’s brutal duel drives into the forest, Amari and Tzain chase after them. A concealed, masked group ambushes, capturing Nailah and Tzain with bolas and nets. Amari fights back but is overpowered and drugged. The attack fractures the group and escalates the danger beyond the prince’s pursuit.

Summary

Amari watches Zélie and Inan clash with lethal intensity, recognizing that Zélie aims to kill. Determined to stop them, Amari ignores Tzain’s warning and follows as the duel surges deeper into the valley forest.

On the chase, Amari senses being watched, fearing Inan’s soldiers. Instead, hidden attackers spring a trap: bolas and a net entangle Nailah, who is dragged away by five masked figures dressed in black.

Tzain charges to free Nailah but is quickly bound by bolas and trapped in a net, then knocked unconscious. Amari counters with her blade, realizing the assailants are not royal soldiers.

Overwhelmed by their coordinated strikes, Amari is disarmed. A soaked cloth is forced over her face; the acrid fumes burn and darkness closes in. As Zélie and Inan’s fight rages elsewhere, the ambushers capture Nailah, seize Tzain, and subdue Amari, leaving the group fractured and vulnerable.
