Harry escorts Lara to Demonreach’s summit and then down the long spiral into the island, proposing candor between them. Lara admits the place terrifies her, while Harry senses an indistinct disturbance above and reassures her of safety under his dominion. Their talk turns personal—books, resilience, and rare integrity—before he warns her not to touch the crystal prisons.

They pass through the seventh of thirteen tunnels, among vast green crystals housing monstrous entities. Harry explains the inventory’s peril, the horrors contained, and his refusal to risk releasing anything. A distant aerial presence triggers howls from imprisoned beings, underscoring the danger Harry can command but won’t unleash.

Harry raises Thomas’s crystal upright and opens contact. Thomas wakes groggy, fearing he is dead, and immediately begs them to find Justine and protect the baby, explaining Nemesis’s coercion. Harry reports Thomas’s body is healing, but his Hunger is rousing. Lara suggests releasing Thomas and immediately satiating the Hunger—possibly using condemned victims—to save his life.

Thomas rejects killing to feed, warning he would likely slaughter uncontrollably and spiral afterward. Harry refuses Lara’s plan, promising to find a safer way and to locate Justine before spring. As Thomas’s panic mounts, Harry soothes him back toward stasis with assurances of their search, while Lara affirms House Raith’s duty to protect the child.

After the link fades, Lara reveals she raised Thomas and, unable to bear children herself, claims a mother’s bond. When Harry blocks her lethal option, Lara’s predatory aura and seductive pressure rise, but Harry breaks off before worse choices are made. They depart with tempers checked, committed to shared goals: save Thomas without sacrificing innocents and find Justine and the baby.
