Act Two - Lux Aeterna — Chapter 15

Overview

David returns home with a gift for Isabella and finds her sorting a long-locked room filled with a previous tenant’s belongings. Isabella identifies the former owner as Diego Marlasca and uncovers photos linking actress Irene Sabino to the house. A party photograph also reveals Andreas Corelli’s presence decades earlier, alarming David. Shaken, David forbids further access and orders all items removed, deepening the mystery around Corelli and the house.

Summary

On his way home, David buys an elaborate pen set for Isabella, admiring her handwriting and intending the purchase as thanks. Expecting a warm reception, he instead finds the corridor dark and a once-locked room open, lit by a candle.

Inside, Isabella has begun organizing old belongings she found there. She reveals the previous tenant’s name from letters—Diego Marlasca, sharing David’s initials—and shows David boxes of photos, books, and mementos. Among the photographs, they identify actress Irene Sabino posing by the very window of David’s tower study, suggesting a past link between her and the house, and possibly Marlasca.

Another photograph, taken at an Equestrian Club gathering, startles David: in the background stands a white-haired Andreas Corelli. The unexpected appearance of Corelli in an old scene visibly unsettles David, who abruptly ends the discovery.

David orders Isabella never to enter the room again and instructs her to have the Sisters of Charity collect and remove all contents. When Isabella asks who the man is, David deflects, saying “Nobody,” masking his alarm and reinforcing the growing mystery surrounding Corelli’s reach and the house’s past.
