Chapter Three: Russ
Overview
Russ, urged by JJ, confidently brings Aurora to the team’s raucous Jenga game. A dare forces Russ to reveal his last text or forfeit; a manipulative message from his father makes him choose shots instead. Emilia then dares Russ and Aurora to kiss, and later Aurora gives Russ a lap dance, escalating their mutual attraction and Russ’s conflicted feelings about privacy and vulnerability.
Summary
Russ, bolstered by JJ’s pep talk and a little alcohol, approaches Aurora in the kitchen and invites her to join the Jenga game. Holding hands through the crowded party, they reach the table where teammates and friends gather, including Stassie, Nate, Lola, Robbie, JJ, and others. Robbie lays out chaotic rules: dares, forfeits, shots, and a streaking penalty for toppling the tower.
The game quickly becomes rowdy with outrageous prompts: clothing swaps, texts to family, and near-kisses avoided via forfeits. When Russ draws a block that demands showing his last text or sending Coach Faulkner an “I love you,” he refuses both, taking shots instead. Internally, Russ reveals the last text is from his father, manipulating him for money and undermining him—pain Russ hides by choosing alcohol over exposure.
Emilia pulls a “nominate two people to kiss” dare and chooses Russ and Aurora. After confirming consent, they share a heated kiss that draws cheers, highlighting their strong mutual attraction. Subsequent blocks circle the table; Russ avoids kissing Lola out of respect, and the tension between Russ and Aurora simmers.
Russ draws “change direction,” giving Aurora another turn. She pulls a dare to give her nearest hockey player a two-minute lap dance—Russ. After confirming comfort, Aurora performs while Russ battles embarrassment and arousal. JJ calls a break, leaving Russ and Aurora close, breathless, and charged with unresolved desire as Russ asks for a minute, signaling burgeoning intimacy and his cautious step toward vulnerability.
