Chapter Thirty-Seven: Aurora
Overview
Aurora and friends surprise Russ with a low-key "housecoming" gathering that reinforces his found family. The group shares stories, reveals the origin of Russ’s "muffin" nickname, and imagines future plans. After JJ thanks Aurora for Russ’s happiness, Russ confesses he’s falling in love, and Aurora reciprocates, deepening their commitment.
Summary
Aurora abandons a noisy backyard tent setup and prepares a surprise as Russ showers. Stassie, Lola, JJ, Henry, Robbie, Bobby, Kris, and Mattie arrive with a banner and balloons for a "housecoming" welcome. When Russ comes downstairs, he’s stunned by the surprise and immediately folded into the group’s affection.
The friends trade Miami and team stories, easing Aurora into their dynamic. Talk turns to next year, with Russ hoping to return to Honey Acres despite past rule-breaking. The group asks about Russ’s nickname, and Russ explains he once fake-dated Stassie at a bar to protect her from harassment; the drunken “muffin” nickname stuck.
Light teasing follows—Bobby flirts via Aurora about Jenna, and the group jokes about camp and house repairs. The atmosphere is warm and restorative after recent family turmoil, with constant casual affection between Aurora and Russ showing their growing closeness.
Outside, Aurora video calls Emilia and Poppy, then shares a quiet moment with JJ, who thanks her for helping Russ see himself as his friends do. They return inside as JJ proposes a game, keeping the day playful and intimate rather than a big party.
In the kitchen, Russ pulls Aurora close. After a brief, grounding exchange, Russ admits, without hesitation, that he’s falling in love with her. Aurora immediately echoes the feeling, sealing a deeper emotional commitment amid the support of Russ’s found family.
