Chapter Twenty-Four: Russ
Overview
With the talent show approaching, tensions flare between counselors over performance plans. Russ learns Clay tried to kiss Aurora, stoking Russ’s jealousy. Russ and Aurora escalate their secret relationship in a storage room, share vulnerable metaphors about sunlight and moonlight, and are nearly caught by Jenna, heightening the stakes of their secrecy.
Summary
On a morning reserved for talent show rehearsal, Russ and Aurora watch Xander and Emilia bicker over what the counselors should perform. Aurora organizes breaks for the others, underscoring how seriously she takes the show. Clay lingers with a strained smile, which Aurora rebuffs, unsettling Russ.
When Russ asks Xander and Emilia why Clay is acting odd, Xander casually reveals that Clay previously tried to kiss Aurora. The revelation ignites Russ’s jealousy and protectiveness. Jenna arrives with the camp dogs, and Russ, feeling guilty about their secret, volunteers to fetch deck chairs before Jenna can accompany Aurora.
In a storage room, Russ steadies Aurora as she reaches for the chairs, and their attraction surges. Aurora straddles Russ, and despite the risk and lack of condoms, Russ brings her to climax with his hand. In the aftermath, Russ admits jealousy about Clay, while Aurora teases him about possessiveness.
Their banter turns tender as Russ calls Aurora “sunlight,” and Aurora, afraid of hurting him, asks to be “moonlight” instead. They share a soft, affirming moment, joking about sharks to defuse the intensity, then decide to head back before they’re missed.
At the door, Jenna appears, nearly catching them together. Aurora covers with a complaint about confusing storage, and Jenna, irritated but unconvinced of anything specific, escorts them back. Seated with Jenna nearby, Russ fields small talk while acutely aware of Aurora’s scent on his hand, his guilt and desire both intensified as the talent show pressures continue.
