In the quiet of Brynn’s room, Acker idly balances a blade and explains he is an elemental who manipulates metals. Brynn studies her old sketches, then presses Acker for the truth. He recounts the day she vanished in Kenta, when he coordinated water elementals to push back the sea, and reveals her mother is alive while her father’s whereabouts are unknown.

Discussing the blade, Acker explains hearthstone-forged weapons bond to their maker. Brynn’s knife, crafted with her father, answers her call; her mother entrusted it to Acker when he joined the army. He admits he searched years for Brynn before giving up, wearing the blade in mourning.

When Brynn asks who she truly is, Acker reveals she is Princess Jovie of the Maile, whose family has ruled for a century. He suggests Wren’s kidnapping stoked war among territories and warns of a deeper plan: Kai’s influence could mimic the signs of a true match, growing stronger with touch, to bind Brynn and let Kai claim half of Maile’s territory.

Acker suddenly senses someone approaching and escapes out the window, handing Brynn her blade. Faline arrives with Brynn’s ceremony dress, surveys the room, and kindly reassures her. She shares a memory: after Brynn’s parents died, Brynn lived with the captain and Faline, and baby Kai calmed Brynn when nothing else worked, beginning their childhood bond. Before leaving, Faline gives Brynn coins for a post-ceremony gift.

After Faline departs, Acker slips back in. Brynn discards the dress and outlines their plan: wait for the Matching Ceremony, then slip away using an unguarded fishing boat. Acker agrees, ending with a teasing remark that underscores their growing complicity and urgency.
