Renegade

At Fionn’s house, Rose and Fionn banter over a reality dating show, their attraction simmering beneath jokes. A security alert about Barbara, the clinic’s raccoon menace, sends them racing to the clinic, where passing state troopers mention a search at Humboldt Lake for Eric, easing Rose’s fear because it’s far from the Platte River.

At the clinic, they plan to corner Barbara. Rose enters from the back, teasing Fionn by text as she hunts the raccoon. Barbara ambushes them; Rose tosses a towel, grabs Barbara, and Fionn takes clawing scratches to the face. Rose releases Barbara outside with trail mix while Fionn tends to his wounds, their flirtation briefly surfacing.

Knocks at the front door interrupt them. Fionn texts Rose to hide. Matt Cranwell arrives seeking an eye check. In a cool, controlled exchange, Matt probes about the injured woman at Fionn’s house. Fionn refuses to divulge anything, warns subtly about “insiders,” and maintains professional distance, prescribing pain meds that Matt declines.

After Matt leaves, Rose studies a photo of Fionn with his brothers, realizing how much he has distanced himself to heal. Fionn returns and, uncharacteristically tense, hugs her, both of them steadying. He drives her home, then heads for rabies shots.

Alone that night, Rose realizes Fionn never answered whether he’s okay, leaving her anxious about the cost of her presence and the darkness he’s holding back.
