Ace of Cups

In her tarot tent at Silveria Circus, Rose reads for Lucy, noticing a fading black eye and the fearful reactions of Lucy and her children around Lucy’s drunk husband, Matt Cranwell. After Matt intimidates Rose and steals back Lucy’s payment, Rose draws cards asking how to help and takes their message as a push toward decisive action.

Rose recruits teenage magician Bazyli (Baz) to stealthily lift Matt’s driver’s license and reclaim twenty dollars for Lucy during the bustling fair. She prepares for her own Globe of Death act with twins Adrian and Alin, but Matt’s license burns in her pocket, confirming her intent to escalate beyond covert aid.

After the performance, Rose rides to a grocery store for Baz’s requested items and then to Matt’s rural address. Hearing rage and a scream from the farmhouse, she commits to act. She rushes Matt with a baseball bat, but he counters, breaking her lower leg and battering her while she struggles on the gravel.

In desperation, Rose flings grit into Matt’s eyes, disarms him, and, grasping scattered cocktail sticks from her torn bag, drives them into his eye. Matt collapses, howling and bleeding as Rose painfully limps away.

At the road, Rose sees Lucy silhouetted at the door, watching Rose—not Matt—before disappearing inside. Rose mounts her motorcycle and flees, shaken, injured, and newly committed to a more direct, dangerous path against abusers.
