Three of Swords

At sunset on the Maine coast, Fionn doubts Rose will come—until she arrives, guarded and hurt. He offers The Lovers tarot card and reads a letter confessing he left to protect her and asking her to choose them. Rose admits he hurt her but that his letters helped heal her.

Negotiating what choosing each other means, Rose lists affectionate “rules” to dissolve. They kiss, agree to try again, and go to Fionn’s inn. Inside, Rose reads her own letter—the reversed Three of Swords—promising continued letters, healing, and love. They embrace their second chance.

That night they share bourbon, read their saved letters aloud, and fall asleep together. In the morning they exchange new notes and make love in the shower. Days follow with a ritual of daily letters, conversation, sex, fights, laughter, and steady healing.

They leave the inn to road-trip in Dorothy, talk about the past and future, and decide to give Boston another try. Fionn considers Leander’s offer to help establish a clinic, willing to work legitimately while remaining near Rose’s friends.

Three weeks later, they arrive at Sloane’s lakeside cottage where Lachlan and Rowan are expected. Rose slips to set up a “ta-da” reunion. Alone, Fionn reveals a ring box, pockets it, and heads for the door resolved to make up for lost time—and propose.
