Baz delivers a mysterious envelope addressed to “Mayhem,” bearing Fionn’s handwriting and a Croatian stamp. Inside is the Five of Cups and a letter of apology, love, and resolve.

Spurred by hope and anger in equal measure, Rose performs, then rereads the letter obsessively. The next week brings the Moon, with Fionn confessing fears, secrets, and long-suppressed love. Weeks pass with more letters and cards; Rose writes unsent replies about anger, forgiveness, and longing. As the circus season begins, a Knight of Wands letter guesses her departure and invites conversation about favorite stops; Rose admits Hartford—and Fionn—are what she misses most.

On the road, Baz regularly delivers letters; one recounts Fionn’s secret trip to Ely to watch her ride, paired with the Chariot. The steady cadence of mail becomes Rose’s lifeline amid uneven shows and weather.

In late July, José personally brings a letter and gently confronts Rose for merely existing, not living. He notes she hasn’t opened her tarot tent, shares that Lucy Cranwell sought her to say a reading changed her life, and admits Fionn (as Dr. Kane) wrote him too, asking time off so Fionn can see her. José urges Rose to choose what brings her joy and says the circus will always be home if she wants it.

Rose opens the new letter to find the Star: Fionn’s favorite, tied to hope and to seeing her as his North Star. He says his enforced distance is ending and asks her to meet him at Lookout Rock in Ellsworth, Maine; he’ll wait daily while staying at Covecrest Cottages. Rose watches the fairgrounds fade into night, weighing whether to go and what home now means.
