At a ballroom event, Humphrey hesitates until Jason performs a tango with Gabrielle Pellin, drawing applause and then steering her toward Humphrey. Gabrielle praises Humphrey’s talent from past assessments, and Humphrey nervously accepts a dance, signaling a tentative connection.

In Old City’s theatre district, the group debates a play’s meaning, then meets Lady Thalia Mercer. Danielle teases that Thalia may be matchmaking Rufus, and the group departs.

Elsewhere, Sophie and Belinda are summoned to Clarissa Ventress’s canal-district manor. Clarissa declares Sophie’s pit-fighting over and orders a new task: high-profile, public thefts targeting Greenstone’s elite to direct pressure onto the Silva family by association with the thieves. Sophie accepts but insists on choosing targets and timing and keeping Clarissa uninvolved, planning to fence goods through Silva’s network.

After leaving, Sophie explains the real stakes to Belinda: Clarissa likely wants them to break the deal and seems shielded by Island-backed politics. Fearing they have become leverage, they resolve to stall with minimal jobs while seeking escape. With shipping locked down by the Big Three, they consider a perilous overland route—either via the desert to the central veldt or across the dead sands—recognizing it as a desperate gamble.
