Summary
Crossing from mangroves to marsh at dusk, the group halts as Vincent raises one final notice: trap weavers. Humphrey explains their stealth, lethal webs, and typical nesting numbers, stressing that twilight favors them and that they are a leading killer of iron-rankers. Vincent invites volunteers but warns it is rough.
After tense exchanges—Mobley rashly accuses Vincent of malfeasance and then apologizes—the candidates individually decline. Humphrey, joined by the others, formally recommends that no one participate. Vincent accepts the decision and moves them on to town.
