JAIME
Overview
Jaime arrives at Raventree, cools Jonos Bracken’s demands, and negotiates Tytos Blackwood’s surrender to the Iron Throne. He parcels limited lands to Bracken and takes Hoster Blackwood as hostage, also requiring a Bracken daughter for court. Traveling on, Jaime camps at Pennytree, where Brienne appears, claiming the Hound holds the Stark girl and demanding Jaime come alone.
Summary
Jaime reaches Raventree Hall, surveying the long, grinding siege led by Jonos Bracken. Entering Bracken’s tent mid-tryst with Hildy, Jaime redirects the lord to business, hears Bracken’s sweeping land claims, and promises only a fair portion for partial service. Jaime then rides to Raventree under a peace banner to end the stand-off.
Inside, Jaime meets Lord Tytos Blackwood and discusses the fall of Riverrun, Edmure’s fate, and the Blackfish’s escape. In Blackwood’s solar, before the dead weirwood, they settle terms: confession, renewed fealty, royal pardon, and a payment. Jaime negotiates a reduced cession of lands to Bracken—Buckle, Woodhedge, Honeytree and its hives, Crossbow Ridge, plus Lord’s Mill—rejecting Bracken’s larger claims.
When Jaime demands a hostage, Tytos pleads for anyone but his young daughter. Jaime accepts Hoster Blackwood instead, and pointedly warns Tytos against aiding outlaws like Beric, the Blackfish, or Lady Stoneheart. Leaving the castle, Jaime informs Bracken of the allotted lands and orders him home to plant, then demands one of Bracken’s daughters attend the Queen Regent, ensuring leverage on both rivals.
Jaime’s column detours along the Widow’s Wash at dusk, with Hoster guiding them past the Teats and into Pennytree, a village rebuilt after war. The wary villagers refuse to open their holdfast, and Jaime forbids pillage, posting sentries and scouts while his men shelter in empty houses and ration their own supplies.
Near midnight, scouts return with Brienne of Tarth. Wounded by a bite and armed with Oathkeeper, Brienne tells Jaime she has found the girl and can lead him there, but insists he must come alone, warning that otherwise the Hound will kill her.
