Summary
Essiya drifts through disorienting dreams that warp childhood memories into ominous summons, signaling her growing magic-madness. She wakes only when Efra forcibly dunks her head in water, a thrice-daily ritual he’s imposed to break the visions and keep her from slipping further. Exhausted, Essiya admits to Efra that strange impulses and glowing veins accompany the visions, and he warns that if she succumbs before Nuzret Kamel, they have no way to stop her.
The next morning, Maia rushes in with urgent news: two arrivals are approaching, one apparently captured near the mountain edge. Realizing it must be Arin—despite her explicit orders to keep him away—Essiya’s fury flares, her veins rigid with power as she races to the enclave entrance. She disperses a crowd with a command, fighting invasive urges from her unstable magic that envision slaughtering the onlookers.
Namsa enters ahead of the prisoners and confesses the Urabi decision: they brought Arin in alive, claiming he had compelling evidence and no pursuers, with Asim and George left behind to block any trail from Essam. Essiya, incredulous that the so-called Silver Serpent would conveniently wander into their net, challenges the judgment and fights to maintain control without Lateef’s formal backing.
