Summary
At dawn, Omalian cavalry charges Mahair. Sylvia’s preparations spring: hidden nets and mud topple the first riders, and Medhat ignites a ring of fire along the wall to channel the enemy through a narrow gate. Fairel snipes from a rooftop while villagers, armed with scavenged weapons, surge into close combat. Sylvia mounts a captured horse and cuts down soldiers, holding the chokepoint.
In the melee, Raya is gravely wounded. Rory’s examination suggests she is dying. Refusing to lose her, Sylvia yields to a potent inner force: golden light blooms, silver blood pours, and Sylvia forces life back into Raya, embedding a glowing ember in Raya’s brow. Raya awakens with gold‑silver streaked eyes, while Rory and the girls regard Sylvia with fear. Sylvia, unsettled by the presence within her, returns to the fight.
Nizahl troops led by Arin arrive and form ranks outside the wall.
