Overview
Essiya awakens among the Urabi, fights Namsa, and is confronted with accusations about Dawoud’s death before revealing he chose his end during the Alcalah. Led to the Gibal, a hidden Jasadi refuge, she is recognized as Malika. Despite panic and doubt, Essiya accepts the people’s welcome and the responsibility of Jasad’s return.
Summary
Essiya wakes to children and a storyteller, disoriented and stripped of her cuffs, realizing her magic is free. Confronted by the Urabi warrior Namsa, Essiya resists captivity, demanding release. A brief fight shows Namsa will not strike a leader, triggering Essiya’s spiraling thoughts of Arin and betrayal.
Essiya exploits an opening, only for Namsa to subdue her. The clash turns personal when Namsa accuses Essiya of killing Dawoud, her uncle. Shocked, Essiya denies it and, when pressed for honesty, recounts the second Alcalah trial in Dar al Mansi: Dawoud chose to turn the blade on himself while aiding her against Al Anqa’a. The revelation tempers Namsa’s rage.
Namsa promises to explain the Urabi’s purpose and has Essiya change into clothes made by a Jasadi seamstress using magic. Essiya notices a gold vein on her wrist, a sign of altered magic after the cuffs’ removal, and panics over where her unleashed power may have sent Sefa and Marek—likely back to Mahair.
As Namsa guides her through tight, stony corridors, she outlines the Urabi’s method: abducting reluctant Jasadis, showing them a living cause, then redeploying them covertly across kingdoms. Essiya warns of Nizahl reprisals but learns the Urabi scatter returnees to reduce risk.
They enter the Gibal, a vast cavern sheltering hundreds of Jasadis, including many children. Skepticism from Kawsar yields to Lateef’s declaration that Essiya is not just the Heir but the Malika. The assembly kneels, welcoming her home. Overwhelmed by panic and the weight of expectation, Essiya confronts her fear and failures, then commits to Jasad. She thanks them and accepts the homecoming, choosing to lead despite doubt.
