Lukub: One Month After the Entombment

A week later she is crowned; Orban signals stability and support, Jasad offers welcome, and Arin notably does not attend.
Summary
One month after the Entombment, Sefa faces Lukub’s council in the Ivory Palace. Biyad presents a witnessed decree written by Sultana Vaida naming Sefa as successor, arguing Lukub’s law allows succession outside the bloodline since the line ended with Vaida. Sefa, numb with grief over Marek and shaken by Essiya’s fate, questions Vaida’s death and her own fitness to rule.
Jeru intervenes, urging patience, but Biyad presses that Lukub is unstable and the rise of Jasad is alarming. Sefa defends Jasad and magic, citing her own and Jeru’s gifts and the harmlessness of Lateef’s power. Remembering the illusions that once defined Lukub, Sefa resolves to end that legacy and accepts the crown.
A week later, Sefa is crowned Sultana before thousands. The new Queen of Omal, a pragmatic former laborer chosen by lower villages, attends and warmly greets Sefa. Sorn and his wife Diya of Orban also attend; their reforms—curbing khawaga power and restoring trade with Jasad—have calmed Orban’s unrest and suggest an orderly transition toward Sorn’s rule.
Diya pointedly affirms Orban will not abandon Jasad, hinting at regional realignments under Sefa’s reign. Malik Lateef cannot attend but sends congratulations and an open invitation to Jasad. Supreme Arin of Nizahl does not appear, his absence underscoring ongoing rifts and uncertainties despite Sefa’s accession.
