19. World Congress: Challenge
Overview
Factions clash over the System Event, each pushing what suits their strengths. The Noboru clan offers to negotiate their four-city voting bloc, triggering private deals. Haven and the Holy Church align on Treasure Hunt and court Noboru alongside the undead. Jake pointedly challenges the Sword Saint, nudging Noboru toward Treasure Hunt and reframing the stakes as proving strength.
Summary
The congress pivots from materials to the contentious choice of System Event. The undead argue for Town Defense to leverage their defensive prowess and build alliances, while Midtgaard pushes hard for dungeons. Many cities care less about the event itself and more about bargaining leverage.
The Noboru clan publicly offers to negotiate their four combined votes, drawing both criticism and eager interest. As talks shift behind closed doors, Jake confirms the Holy Church’s alignment with Treasure Hunt and joins Jacob to approach Noboru. Jake also invites undead representatives Priscilla and Casper to keep negotiations inclusive, while Jacob diplomatically sidesteps Church-undead tensions.
While Jacob and the Noboru City Lord discuss terms, Jake privately speaks with the Sword Saint, offering top-tier potions and arguing that Treasure Hunt uniquely enables open sparring among top Earth factions. Rejecting personal gain as leverage, the Sword Saint still reveals interest in testing strength. Jake leaves after challenging him—“let’s see who wins”—confident the Noboru clan will lean toward Treasure Hunt.
