55. Keeping It Friendly

Leaving the Fort, Jake notes Hank’s group moving to another meeting and Arnold working on the Nanoblade. He returns swiftly to Haven and senses activity in his valley: the hawks have come back. Sylphie collides with him affectionately, revealing she has surged to level 83, while Hawkie and Mystie have advanced to 120 and 126.

Jake notices a magic circle at his time tree: Mystie has engineered an automatic banana retrieval and stabilization setup. Before he can test it, Sylphie snatches and devours the ripened fruit, confirming why the stock vanished. Jake plays and spars with the birds, testing small arcane bolts while gauging their progress.

Sylphie’s wind magic proves unusually potent and defensive, forming shearing currents and a protective green bubble. She then surprises Jake with melee attacks: a razor-thin wing pass and empowered talon strike that pierces his arm armor and flesh, nearly gouging bone. Jake heals immediately and spends time consoling a distraught Sylphie, while Hawkie and Mystie look on proudly. The parents later depart to hunt; Sylphie decides to stay with Jake.

As evening falls, Miranda arrives carrying dinner via a new spatial storage ring and reveals she has evolved to D‑grade. Jake, briefly flustered by her post-evolution presence, resolves to act professionally and as a friend. He invites Sylphie to join, sets the table, and opens their meeting by asking Miranda about her profession upgrade.
