Summary
At dawn, Alexis wakes between Kharon and Augustus, the trio savoring a rare, carefree morning with their familiars Nyx and Fluffy Jr. After hours of intimacy, they retreat to a bath where tenderness gives way to probing honesty. Kharon gently asks about Alexis’s damaged eye and ear, and Augustus falls silent, bracing for her answer.
Alexis recounts her childhood: a violent storm, foster parents threatening Charlie, her desperate defense, ensuing abuse, starvation, a death, police, and the wrecked trailer towed away. When Augustus exposes the scars beneath her wrist cuff, she explains being tied as a child and breaking herself free on a rock. Her calm detachment contrasts with Kharon and Augustus’s explosive fury.
Without debate, Kharon arms himself with guns and Augustus with a knife, leading Alexis into the dungeon. There, they reveal a dirt-covered prisoner—Alexis’s foster father—captured after their own digging and held for her judgment. He pleads, invoking her supposed goodness, while Augustus and Kharon step back, insisting the decision is hers, promising support whatever she chooses.
Claiming her agency, Alexis summons the Rod of Asclepius and drives its edge into her foster father’s sternum, declaring she killed his wife that winter. As he convulses and threatens regret, Alexis turns away, unmoved. Kharon and Augustus flank her, and the three leave the dungeon together, unified in her chosen vengeance.
