Overview
At Augustus’s fortified Lake Como villa, Alexis reunites with Charlie and prepares for a week of training. Disturbed by screams, she finds and frees the imprisoned muse Ceres, triggering a confrontation. Patro’s limited interrogation confirms Ceres hasn’t aided Theros, but suspicions persist. Ceres’s fractured memory hints at Zeus, and Helen warns of mutually assured destruction.
Summary
Alexis, Kharon, and others arrive at Augustus’s Lake Como villa, now ringed by an emergent electric fence meant to keep Olympians out. Augustus presents Charlie to join Helen’s tutoring and announces a week of training before Titans arrive. Alexis, Helen, Charlie, and Drex share a tense sleepover, their hunger and trauma lingering.
Awakened by screams, Alexis secretly follows the sound to a dungeon and finds the pink-haired muse Ceres, bloodied and chained. Believing there’s no proof of guilt and moved by Ceres’s trauma and memory gaps, Alexis frees her. An alarm exposes them; Augustus and Kharon confront Alexis in the hall, but Helen backs Alexis’s plan to house Ceres in the adjoining room under guard.
Patro and Achilles arrive, escalating tensions. After Helen imposes limits, Patro conducts a single, consented touch-interrogation: Did Ceres assist Theros? Ceres answers no, and Patro confirms she isn’t lying, though he insists she could still be dangerous. Augustus grudgingly allows Ceres to remain under surveillance; Kharon stands down after initial fury.
Settled in Helen’s adjacent room, Ceres reveals recent memories but an obscured past and blurts one fragmented recall: Zeus—without details. Helen warns Alexis about the Great War’s silence and the doctrine of mutually assured destruction, sharpening the stakes. Alexis later endures a vivid nightmare of Death watching her, the warning echoing in her mind.
