Chapter 47: The Impersonator is Revealed
Overview
Alexis, Kharon, and Augustus burst into Helen’s room to find Ceres confronting Patro and Achilles. Patro rips off Ceres’s wig, exposing Gorgon snakes and revealing her as Medusa—and the Helen impersonator. Accusations erupt as Alexis insists Medusa was framed, fracturing trust with Achilles and Patro. The scene ends with Alexis beginning to explain her accidental Underworld detour that led to freeing Medusa.
Summary
Alexis, with Kharon and Augustus, rushes into the adjacent bedroom overlooking Lake Como and finds chaos: symbols inked on walls, torn textbooks, and Ceres cornered by Patro while Achilles stands guard. Tensions spike when Ceres punches Patro after he insults her, and Achilles steps protectively in.
Patro grabs Ceres’s hair, ripping off a fuchsia wig identified as Helen’s. Long black hair falls as three pale serpents rise—revealing Ceres as a Gorgon. Nyx greets the snakes, confirming the truth. Patro accuses Alexis of freeing Medusa and blames her for interrogations, while Augustus and Kharon shield Alexis and demand respect.
Medusa silently begs Alexis not to expose her past, but Patro calls her a traitor. Alexis counters that Zeus admitted Medusa was framed. Medusa fires back at Patro, taunting his Aphrodite lineage for deceit. Achilles signs that Alexis endangered everyone, especially Patro; Alexis signs that anyone who saw Medusa’s suffering would have acted as she did. Kharon bristles at Achilles’s hostility, and Alexis reels from exhaustion and pain.
As tempers swell—Gorgon snakes rattling, Achilles readying to fight—Augustus calmly asks how this all happened. Alexis, steadied by Kharon and comforted by Augustus, starts to explain: during her last initiation leap, she missed Crete and, injured, fell into the Underworld, setting the events that led to freeing Medusa in motion.
