Chapter Fifty-Eight

Jane arrives at Dr. Twist’s Dover Street office posing as a prospective EMDR patient. She describes a neglected childhood and lifelong self-sabotage, positioning herself as eager for trauma “recoding.” Dr. Twist explains EMDR, and Jane expresses urgent interest, accepting a faster, free option at his Charing Cross practice.

With minutes left, Jane admits a second purpose: she is investigating the disappearance of Daisy Black and believes Jasper Black—pictured on her phone—is involved. She appeals to professional exceptions to confidentiality given potential danger to Daisy.

Dr. Twist acknowledges Jasper was his patient and that Jasper may be dangerous to young women. He says he wrote to Jasper about a year earlier after reading of a similar assault, inviting him to resume treatment, but Jasper never replied. The doctor has been uneasy ever since, anticipating a situation like this.

When pressed for leads, Dr. Twist offers no contact details or known haunts. He shares only Jasper’s recurring disclosure: he dreamed nightly of the “hellhole” home where he grew up and of being trapped there.

Jane connects this to the Vale house and its outhouse, recalling signs of imprisonment. Concluding the key lies in Jasper’s childhood home, she resolves that she must get inside the house again to find Daisy.
