Seeing an open window, she deduces Lee is Eleanor’s estranged father and vows to intervene before violence occurs.
Summary
Casey studies the notebook’s final page and finds, unlike prior drawings of a tortured woman, a man lying in blood with a red‑haired girl over him, plus a name and address. Rechecking the map, she realizes she misread it: the destination is not her cabin but a nearby house—Lee’s.
Connecting the clues, Casey understands Eleanor sought Lee all along. With phone lines still dead and time short, Casey decides against driving and heads on foot through mud and storm debris, resolving to warn him despite Eleanor having Casey’s gun.
Following footprints in the woods, Casey questions whether she can stop Eleanor and briefly wonders if Lee’s over-attentiveness hid darker motives. Still, she concludes Eleanor’s rage must have roots, even if he doesn’t deserve to die.
At dawn, Casey reaches Lee’s dark cabin and spots a window left open, likely Eleanor’s entry point. Remembering Eleanor’s comments about an unknown, terrible father and her belief that bad people get what’s coming, Casey concludes Lee is Eleanor’s father and her intended victim.
