In Hall Morsini, Alfredo Participazio attends a revel where the house celebrates its leverage between rival factions. A mysterious man in a Papa Monsoon costume—Crasedes—joins the Dandolo deputation, gives them featureless white masks, and waits as Rodrigo Morsini arrives on a golden throne.

Crasedes steps into the procession’s path, removes his hat and mask, and prepares to reveal his true face. Understanding the danger, Participazio and the scrivers don the white masks to block sight and sound. As Crasedes declares himself judgment, screams erupt; unseen, he compels revelers to destroy themselves.

Meanwhile in Foundryside, Clef awakens disoriented after three years. Sancia and Berenice brief him on Crasedes’s death-defying bindings and the threat to Tevanne. Clef senses alterations within Sancia beyond her editor abilities, alarming Valeria.

Pressed, Clef reveals Valeria installed hidden mechanisms enabling her to twin with Sancia and assume control if needed to escape her own bindings. When the scrivers unmask, they find the floor slick with blood and bodies mutilated by their own hands; bloody footprints mark Crasedes’s departure into the streets, promising wider judgment.
