Chapter 75
Overview
Evie confronts Trystan about his love confession and fears it was for show, but Trystan affirms it is real. They choose each other, consummate their relationship, and rest until the storm eases. With the rain stopped, Kingsley arrives, and they recommit to restoring him and fulfilling the prophecy to save Rennedawn.
Summary
In the barn after the ambush, Evie holds a blade to Trystan, demanding he not walk away after declaring love. Trystan, exhausted and wary of his mother’s threats, retreats to rest, prompting Evie to ask if his confession was only to spite the Queen. When Trystan’s silence wounds her, he stops Evie from leaving and insists the truth is he loves her.
They admit their feelings openly. Trystan worries about destiny and the prophecy, but Evie asks only for his commitment. He vows he wants her forever, and they share an intense, consensual first time together, with Rennedawn’s curse seemingly muting Trystan’s death magic.
After hours drifting in and out of sleep, they redress, exchange reassurances—Trystan tells Evie she has “ruined” him in the best way—and face the end of the storm with renewed resolve. Evie promises not to give up on him.
As Trystan opens the barn door, Kingsley appears holding a sign. Trystan snatches it, grumbling about burning signs once the Enchantress restores Kingsley to human form. Evie and Kingsley head out, determined to break his curse and fulfill the prophecy, knowing Rennedawn’s fate hinges on their success.
