Overview
Trystan rescues Evie from a perilous fall, exposing charged intimacy and his protective resolve. Summary
Under starlight, Trystan revives to find Alexander Kingsley lucid but too late to prevent injury. Panicking for Evie Sage, Trystan discovers Evie clinging to a vine below the balcony. He hauls her up, their closeness sparking awkward attraction and relief as he checks her for injuries.
As they recover, partygoers crowd the doorway. A brute boasting the name “The Destroyer” arrives gripping Kingsley and claims he has won a night with “The Wicked Woman.” Evie pales and looks to Lord Fowler, who casually validates the prize, treating her as a commodity.
When The Destroyer advances, Trystan strikes first, wrenching Kingsley free and then hurling the man over the balcony. Fowler applauds the violence but immediately reframes the game, declaring Trystan the new winner and ordering attendants to escort Trystan and Evie to the lovers’ suite.
The chapter ends with Trystan and Evie trapped by Fowler’s manipulation—Evie objectified by the “prize” and Trystan forced into intimate proximity with his apprentice under hostile, coercive terms.
