Summary
Gideon awakens as the sedative fades and joins Keeley at the guvre’s cage. The female guvre bursts free and attacks with melting mist, forcing Gideon to drag Keeley clear. With the creature enraged, they decide to lure it out, shedding armor to run the tunnels faster.
At the exit they hit a wall of Valiant Guards, proving the guard shift was altered and the mission compromised. Keeley carves a path, and Gideon follows without hesitation, cutting down former comrades. They escape into rain as the guvre smashes through and takes to the sky, beyond their reach.
Gideon insists the ambush was a trap. Keeley produces a ruby to report in and a raven-delivered order that authorized the mission while the Villain was away. Gideon presses her on who issued it, suspecting the supposed trusted second-in-command who relays orders in the boss’s absence.
Examining the note’s handwriting and role, they realize the culprit is the manor’s first line of defense who always warns them early—covering his own sabotage. Keeley is shaken, and Gideon names the betrayer: Marv.
