Chapter 84
Overview
Benedict escalates his attack by channeling Trystan’s magic through a plant, draining Trystan and overwhelming Evie. He reveals he fathered Trystan with Amara, that Griffin sought to shift Evie’s magic at birth, and that the prophecy names Trystan the true prince and Evie the Villain. This redefines loyalties and raises the stakes as Evie’s darkness awakens.
Summary
Amid Benedict’s assault, Evie reels as power surges from a plant he wields, pinning her in place and wringing magic from Trystan. Benedict claims friendship with Evie’s father and laments that fate cannot be tricked.
Benedict recounts meeting Amara nearly three decades ago, refusing marriage or children but agreeing she could keep their child if he could use him when needed. He notes Griffin later begged him to help Evie at birth after a dire magical finding.
When Evie rejects the idea of being saved, Benedict twists it as destiny. Trystan collapses to his knees, depleted, and Evie shields him while demanding answers.
Benedict declares the prophecy’s truth: Trystan is the heart of the true prince, while the Villain’s role is fixed in nature. He says Evie’s parents hoped he could siphon Evie’s magic at birth and give it to Trystan, which fit his desire to utilize a son.
As darkness and mist flood Evie, her scar burns and her long-starved magic sings. Trystan clings to Evie’s hand despite the force pushing him away. Benedict delivers the final blow: Evie was always meant to be the Villain, and he forces that destiny upon her.
