Chapter 29
Overview
Keres pushes Ace for the partner’s name, but Ace refuses and condemns her past deceptions. He confirms killing Mason Michaelson, then rejects Keres’s apology and attempts at leverage during a charged confrontation. Their explosive attraction collides with eroding trust, stalling the mission while Ace keeps the crucial lead to himself.
Summary
Keres confronts Ace in the motel, demanding the name he extracted from Mason Michaelson. Ace refuses, throwing her past betrayals in her face and storming out. Romeo needles Keres, warning how hard Ace fights the urge to either kill or sleep with her.
Outside, Keres presses Ace about Michaelson. Ace confirms he killed Michaelson, and Keres thanks him, acknowledging that anyone holding Lang’s partner’s name was complicit. She apologizes for the trouble she caused Ace and Romeo.
Ace closes the distance, pins Keres by the throat, and grinds against her, exposing their volatile, mutual attraction. He accuses Keres of trying to manipulate him with a “fake” apology and her body.
Despite admitting he wants her and regrets their previous intimacy, Ace vows not to lose control again and walks away, leaving Keres aroused, angry, and still in the dark about the partner’s identity.
