Chapter 18
Overview
Lorenzo orders Ace and Romeo to accompany and protect Keres as she hunts the man connected to Mia’s kidnapping, forbidding them from harming Keres until Mia is recovered. Despite hostility on all sides, Keres, Ace, and Romeo agree to work together and set off to pursue her lead.
Summary
Romeo and Ace are summoned by Lorenzo, who reminds them that Keres is their only viable lead to Mia. Lorenzo orders them to accompany Keres, keep eyes on her at all times, and protect her until Mia is safely back. He bans any harm to Keres before Mia’s return, then pointedly implies consequences afterward.
Outside, Ace fumes about being forced to babysit Keres, while Romeo frames their survival as a win after failing to protect Mia. Their argument underscores resentment and mistrust, but Lorenzo’s directive leaves them no choice.
Keres arrives and trades sharp barbs with Ace and Romeo. She admits she needs their access and resources because Lorenzo won’t share information without oversight. The hostility hardens their grudging alliance.
With tensions high, Ace challenges Keres to keep up, then speeds off on his bike. Romeo watches Keres mount her Fireblade, energized by the dangerous dynamic as the trio departs to pursue her lead.
