Chapter 10
Overview
Romeo and Ace arrive prepared to guard Joey at a high-profile charity event, but the assignment shifts. Max DiMarco and Joey leave for other business, and Lorenzo sends his wife, Mia, to the event instead, placing Romeo and Ace on her protection. The change undermines expectations and raises new security stakes.
Summary
Romeo, chafing in a tux and trading barbs with Ace, heads to the Moretti mansion for a black-tie security assignment he assumes is for Joey at a charity event. Their banter underscores Romeo’s restless mood and attraction to Ace as they prepare for routine protection work.
At the door, Max DiMarco’s curt reception signals a change. Max states he’s taking his wife elsewhere and that Romeo won’t be protecting her. Romeo, expecting to escort Joey to the charity function, learns that plan is off.
Lorenzo arrives with Mia, who plans to attend the charity dinner. Despite Lorenzo’s possessiveness, Mia insists she will go without him, noting the heavy security presence at the event. Lorenzo explains that Joey and Max have another commitment and assigns Romeo and Ace to guard Mia, replacing her usual detail due to the last-minute switch.
Romeo and Ace accept the reassignment, recognizing Mia as a cooperative principal compared to Joey. The chapter closes with them prepared to protect Mia at the event, the unexpected shift altering the day’s security dynamics.
