Chapter 37

Keres takes a last look at the Moretti mansion, fighting grief and the urge to cry. Lorenzo approaches and confirms Ace and Romeo will accompany her to find Theo Wynn. Keres resists, but Lorenzo insists, citing her injury and his lack of trust in the men after recent failures.

Keres probes how Lorenzo confirmed she is his sister. He explains hiring Nathan James and a hacker to trace Kendra Sideris, who vanished after working at a Moretti-linked restaurant; records and a nurse’s account tied Keres to Kendra under an alias. This evidence convinced Lorenzo of Keres’s parentage.

Pressed about her motives, Keres reveals she learned at eleven that her father was powerful and vowed revenge after her mother’s death, planning to kill Theo and then the Moretti brothers—but never children. Lorenzo challenges her, invoking his loyalty to Joey, and Keres concedes she misjudged the siblings.

Lorenzo says her hatred reflects a profound paternal betrayal he recognizes and that Ace and Romeo have something to show her for closure. Ace and Romeo arrive, unhappy escorts, but Keres accepts their company due to necessity and her injury.

Keres leaves the mansion with Ace and Romeo, abandoning plans against her half siblings and focusing solely on finding Theo Wynn, while privately acknowledging relief that she is not facing this alone.
