VIII JASON
Overview
Jason’s vision and Rachel’s possession reveal the imprisoned goddess is Hera/Juno, who demands rescue by the solstice as an earthborn king rises. Chiron, bound by oath, refuses to elaborate. In Hypnos’s cabin, Clovis determines Jason’s memories were stolen by a god—likely Hera—and only she can return them.
Summary
Jason and Rachel carry the unconscious Piper to the Big House as Annabeth fetches a med kit. Jason describes the time-freeze and the misty woman who called herself his patron. Rachel recalls being overtaken by an older female voice in Hera’s cabin, and Chiron confirms the event was unlike a standard prophecy.
Clues point to Hera/Juno: the goatskin cloak, the timing with Olympus closing, and the shared message to “free her.” Jason mentions a threat about a king rising from the earth by the solstice. Chiron rules out Kronos but warns Hera’s destruction could destabilize Olympus; then, bound by an oath, he refuses to explain further and withdraws.
Determined to act, Annabeth brings Jason to Cabin Fifteen, the domain of Hypnos, to probe his memory loss. Clovis attempts to help and finds that Jason’s memories were not erased or buried but stolen—by a god—so only Hera can restore them.
Clovis explains that the gods’ Roman aspects differ—more warlike, disciplined, and distant—and notes Jason’s affinity for Roman names. Annabeth grows worried, concluding Jason is in serious trouble while Piper remains fragile and under watch.
