I JASON
Overview
Jason awakens with amnesia on a Wilderness School field trip to the Grand Canyon. A mysterious, localized storm gathers as Jason discovers a gold coin and confronts Coach Hedge, who identifies him as a half-blood and mentions an incoming extraction team. The storm violently escalates, forcing an emergency evacuation.
Summary
Jason wakes on a school bus with no memories, holding hands with Piper, while Leo jokes and Coach Hedge keeps order. Delivered to a Grand Canyon museum, Jason struggles to recognize classmates and learns they attend the Wilderness School for troubled kids. Piper endures taunts from popular girls, and Dylan aggressively partners with her.
On the skywalk, a localized storm forms overhead. Jason experiences headaches and instinctively reveals a strange gold coin. Uneasy, he approaches Coach Hedge, who admits he has never seen Jason before and recognizes Jason as a half-blood unaffected by the Mist. Hedge reveals he’s been guarding two powerful students, expecting an extraction team from “camp.”
Jason’s confusion deepens at mentions of half-bloods, monsters, and camp, triggering painful blanks in his memory. Hedge decides to watch Jason as well until reinforcements arrive. Suddenly lightning intensifies, wind tears away worksheets, and the bridge shudders. Hedge orders everyone off the skywalk as the storm escalates.
