Overview
Jason masters the storm horse Tempest, while Leo’s fire drives back Khione and keeps the team alive. As Porphyrion rises, Jason declares his Roman past and wounds the giant to stall him. Piper lulls Gaea’s cage while Leo severs it, freeing Hera, who obliterates the monsters as Porphyrion retreats.
Summary
Amid the assault at the ruined Wolf House, Jason seizes control of a storm spirit horse, naming it Tempest, and rides through wolves and venti. Piper charmspeaks Earthborn into hesitation before cutting them down, while Leo counters Khione’s blizzards with fire, melting ice across the courtyard and beginning to thaw the Hunters.
Khione retreats in a flurry of snow as Leo advances. Hera, half-buried in her earthen cage, urges haste. Leo devises a plan: Piper lulls Gaea’s tendrils with charmspeak while Leo saws the cage’s base, powering his tool by plugging it into Tempest’s crackling flank.
The giant king Porphyrion erupts from the earth, rallying monsters and boasting of Gaea’s rising war. To buy time, Jason proclaims his Roman identity and legendary feats, rattling the giant. He vaults up Porphyrion, wrenches a sword from the giant’s braids, and drives it into Porphyrion’s ear, triggering a lightning blast that scorches the giant but knocks Jason away.
Porphyrion prepares a killing strike, claiming knowledge of Zeus’s bane. At the last moment, Leo cuts the cage’s core and Piper’s command forces nearby foes to sleep. Hera bursts free in divine radiance, her power restored.
Facing the reborn queen, Porphyrion withdraws into the earth with a silent promise of later battle. Hera warns the heroes to shield their eyes, then detonates in a ring of divine force, vaporizing the remaining monsters. The blinding explosion sears Jason’s senses, and he collapses, thinking his body is burning.
