Summary
Jason dreams he is confined with Hera inside an earthen cage beneath a burned house. Hera reveals she is trapped by a power greater than the gods, concealed from Olympus, and weakening. She defied Jupiter’s withdrawal to protect Rome’s descendants, followed a warning voice here, and was ensnared—echoing the first war when her capture triggered conflict with the giants.
Hera explains the gods need heroes to defeat the giants and hints at a looming, sleepless earth-born enemy. She calls Jason an “exchange,” a bridge to heal ancient divisions, and admits she took his memories to keep him alive. Hera urges Jason to return to his starting point, seek his sister’s help, and warns that his most dangerous mortal enemy waits in Chicago.
Jason wakes on Festus with a concussion as Piper recounts Leo’s solo victory over the Cyclopes and their escape.
