Summary
Jason wakes in the cold, thunderous Zeus cabin, uneasy about belonging at Camp Half-Blood and about the attention his lineage draws. Remembering he asked Piper to join the quest, he wrestles with feeling like a symbol rather than himself.
Exploring the cabin, Jason finds an old sleeping niche with photos of Annabeth, a sandy-haired boy (Luke), and Thalia. Annabeth enters, preparing to search for Percy, and suggests Jason may have survived as a lone demigod. She notes his tattoos—eagle, SPQR, and tally marks—yet can’t explain them.
Jason recounts his dream of Lupa, a ruined house among redwoods, and a dark spire. Annabeth, withholding full speculation, urges him to “follow the monsters” and consult a wind god—specifically Boreas, the North Wind, in Quebec—to trace the storm spirits and find Hera’s prison.
Discussing Thalia, Annabeth explains she became a Hunter of Artemis and mentions Luke’s death. A name sparks Jason’s memory; he makes Annabeth swear on the Styx to keep a secret, then reveals his last name is Grace—Thalia’s brother—confirming a dangerous, hidden connection.
Before they can process the revelation, Butch and other campers burst in with urgent news: the bronze dragon has returned.
