II JASON

Overview

The storm breaks into an attack led by Dylan, a storm spirit, exposing Coach Hedge as a satyr. Jason’s coin transforms into a golden sword; he destroys two venti and discovers he can control the wind, saving Piper.

Hedge is abducted, and a chariot from Camp Half-Blood arrives with Annabeth and Butch. Annabeth, seeking missing camper Percy Jackson, fixates on Jason—the one-shoed boy her vision foretold—and decides to take the trio to camp.

Summary

A hurricane engulfs the skywalk. As students flee, Dylan betrays the group, blasting Piper and trapping the others outside. Coach Hedge reveals horns and hooves—he is a satyr—and leaps down the canyon to rescue Leo, who has been hurled over the side by a funnel cloud.

Dylan transforms into a winged storm spirit (a ventus), summons two more, and attacks. Jason survives a lightning strike, flips his gold coin into a golden sword, dissolves two venti, and shocks everyone. Hedge returns with Leo, but Dylan boasts of a greater war and opens a vortex.

Piper tackles Dylan but is thrown over the railing. Dylan seizes Leo to drag him into the storm; Hedge frees Leo and grapples Dylan, spiraling into the clouds and vanishing. Jason leaps after the falling Piper and instinctively commands the air, arresting their fall and carrying them back to the skywalk.

As the storm clears and the cracked skywalk worsens, a chariot drawn by winged horses lands. Annabeth and Butch arrive, demanding Coach Gleeson Hedge and an explanation. Hearing Jason’s account, Annabeth—guided by a vision to find a one-shoed answer—recognizes Jason’s missing shoe but is frustrated that Percy Jackson, her missing boyfriend, is not there.

With the storm spirits possibly returning and the skywalk failing, Butch urges departure. Annabeth grudgingly agrees to take Jason, Piper, and Leo to Camp Half-Blood, intending to sort out Jason’s identity and Percy’s disappearance later.
