Overview
Kenji confirms that Warner survived Juliette’s shooting and is patrolling nearby with his soldiers, raising the immediate threat to Omega Point. He also reveals his own power of invisibility and explains that he had been spying on Adam as part of Castle’s effort to monitor Warner’s plans for Juliette.
The chapter deepens Omega Point’s sense of secrecy, discipline, and preparation for war while showing that Juliette and Adam’s reunion is still constrained by the community’s rules. Their brief private intimacy is interrupted, leaving their relationship emotionally charged but physically separated until morning.
Summary
Kenji interrupts Juliette and Adam’s conversation by confirming that Warner is not dead. Adam is angry that Kenji lied to them and sedated James, but Kenji deflects with sarcasm and says he has come to show Adam where he will sleep. Because Omega Point has limited space, Adam and James are assigned to be Kenji’s roommates, which frustrates Adam.
Juliette asks about the time and learns that it is almost ten at night. Kenji explains that life underground requires careful attention to clocks because losing track of day and night can be dangerous. When Juliette asks how Kenji knows Warner survived, Kenji says Omega Point saw Warner on camera nearby with his soldiers. Warner was shot and badly wounded, but he is alive, his arm bandaged and in a sling, and his forces are searching the area.
Adam asks whether Omega Point is safe from attack. Kenji insists the shelter is nearly impossible to locate or breach, with extensive surveillance and strong defenses. He adds that Omega Point is not afraid of a fight because its people have trained for this and the Reestablishment does not understand what they can do.
Juliette asks whether Kenji has a gift, and Kenji demonstrates by disappearing. He explains that he can blend into his surroundings rather than become a ghost or pass through objects. Kenji reveals that he used this ability to follow Adam home while working undercover for Castle, because Omega Point wanted to learn more about Warner’s project involving Juliette and determine whether Adam was a threat.
Adam sends Kenji away by asking for pants, then admits to Juliette that he only wanted a private moment. Adam and Juliette embrace and kiss intensely, relieved and desperate after everything they have survived. Adam says he needs to see Juliette that night, but Kenji returns, points out that the wall is glass, and breaks the moment by throwing Adam pants.
Kenji tells Juliette he will take her to Sonya and Sara so they can settle her for the night. When Adam suggests he may not want to sleep, Kenji firmly warns him not to sneak around because Omega Point’s rules keep everyone alive. Adam and Juliette are forced to wait until morning to see each other again.
