FORTY-SEVEN

Overview

Castle reveals that Juliette is not alone: Omega Point is made up of people with unusual abilities, and Castle sees those abilities as tools for resistance rather than curses. Juliette meets Brendan, whose uncontrolled electricity mirrors Juliette’s fear of harming others and gives Juliette a new sense of acceptance.

At the same time, Brendan’s report of nearby Reestablishment tanks raises the stakes, suggesting Juliette’s presence may bring danger to Omega Point. The chapter ends with Juliette turning back toward Adam, still emotionally anchored to him as she begins to imagine belonging somewhere new.

Summary

Castle tells Juliette that she would be invaluable to Omega Point’s resistance. When Juliette asks whether there are others like her, Castle explains that he once believed his own ability made him a monster, then searched for people with similar abnormalities and realized their conditions could become strengths when united.

Juliette asks about Castle’s gift, and Castle demonstrates by drawing a key through the air and catching it in his hand. Castle identifies his ability as advanced psychokinesis, though Castle says he does not yet know what to call Juliette’s lethal touch.

Before Castle can take Juliette to meet the others, Brendan arrives with urgent news. Brendan reports that Omega Point’s radio and cameras are detecting more Reestablishment tanks than usual, possibly moving closer. Castle connects the increased vigilance to Juliette’s arrival, saying The Reestablishment likely wants Juliette back and events may now develop quickly.

Castle introduces Juliette to Brendan, a pale young man with a British accent who accidentally releases electrical sparks from his hands. Brendan admits that he sometimes electrocutes people by accident, and Juliette responds that her own touch might kill him. Their shared danger makes Juliette feel understood rather than feared.

After Brendan leaves to keep monitoring the tanks, Juliette turns toward the glass wall separating her from Adam and wishes Adam would wake up. Castle asks whether Juliette wants to say hello, and Juliette says she does.
