• Unora
  Unora is Dumai’s mother, once the exiled Saguresi of Afa, whose past with Emperor Jorodu creates Dumai’s claim. She becomes a key adviser in Dumai’s provincial court and helps preserve memory, faith, and practical governance amid Seiiki’s collapse.
• Emperor Jorodu
  Jorodu is Seiiki’s emperor and Dumai’s father, seeking to break Clan Kuposa’s control by naming Dumai his heir. His death leaves Suzumai vulnerable to the River Lord’s regency and forces Dumai to choose a rival path.
• Nikeya
  Nikeya is the River Lord’s daughter, first an agent of Kuposa intrigue and later Dumai’s lover, consort, and political partner. After Dumai’s disappearance, she becomes Dowager Queen and Warlord of Seiiki, dismantling the Rainbow Throne and beginning reforms.
• Kuposa pa Fotaja
  Kuposa pa Fotaja, the River Lord, is the dominant Kuposa powerbroker who resists Dumai’s claim and later serves as regent for child-empress Suzumai. Corrupted by Taugran, he attempts sacrificial appeasement and brings ruin to the Noziken line.
• Suzumai
  Suzumai is Dumai’s younger half-sister, a gentle child who is enthroned under the River Lord’s regency. Her sacrifice to Taugran becomes the Eastern crisis that drives Dumai and Furtia into their final pursuit.
• Grand Empress of Seiiki
  The Grand Empress is the former ruler and Supreme Officiant at Mount Ipyeda, guarding long memories of court and dragons. She reveals Dumai’s role, blesses the rival court, and later endorses Nikeya’s new order.
• Furtia Stormcaller
  Furtia is the ancient dragon who judges Dumai worthy, carries her across realms, and fights the wyrms of the East. She dies with other dragons while smothering Taugran under the comet’s star-rain.
• Kanifa
  Kanifa is Dumai’s closest companion from Mount Ipyeda, later her guard and climbing partner. His sacrifice on Brhazat saves Dumai and allows her to carry the astronomer’s knowledge back into the war.
• Epabo
  Epabo is Jorodu’s loyal agent, first disguised as a saltwalker and later a messenger of grave intelligence. His final warning exposes the River Lord’s plan to sacrifice Suzumai.
• Pajati the White
  Pajati is the white dragon of Afa whose bargain with Unora shapes Dumai’s birth and power. At the end, he offers Dumai healing, forcing her final choice over whether to return.
• Tukupa the Silver
  Tukupa is an elder dragon who aids Seiiki during the crisis and supports the postwar transition. His bringing of hidden eggs to Ginura signals renewal after the breaking of the Rainbow Throne.
• Taugran the Golden
  Taugran is the great golden wyrm who corrupts the River Lord and devastates the East. Its death at the hands of Furtia and the allied dragons ends Seiiki’s immediate wyrm threat at enormous cost.
• Master Kiprun
  Master Kiprun is the Lacustrine alchemist who explains the crisis as a cosmic imbalance between fire below and cold above. His theories lead Dumai toward Brhazat and the astronomer’s comet prophecy.
• Consort Jekhen
  Consort Jekhen is the Lacustrine political leader who receives Dumai, offers black-powder knowledge and a bed crossbow, and authorizes the search for answers in the northern mountains.
• Nayimathun
  Nayimathun is the ancient dragon of the Deep Snows who aids Lacustrine and rescues Dumai during the golden wyrm’s attack. She guides the northern journey and speaks of the star that can change the war.
• Tunuva Melim
  Tunuva is a senior Priory warrior, tomb keeper, and Esbar’s partner, torn between duty, love, and grief. She rescues Siyu, discovers Wulf is her stolen son, helps slay Dedalugun, and renews the Priory’s purpose.
• Esbar uq-Nāra
  Esbar is Siyu’s mother, Tunuva’s lover, and later Prioress of the Priory. Stern, strategic, and devout, she leads the South’s defenses, founds the Red Damsels, and kills Dedalugun with Mulsub.
• Siyu
  Siyu is Esbar’s daughter and Tunuva’s name-daughter, whose rebellion, pregnancy, and flight set off major Priory conflicts. She returns chastened, fights in the South, and later enters Glorian’s household to protect Sabran.
• Lukiri
  Lukiri is Siyu’s daughter, born during the Priory’s internal crisis. Her survival anchors Siyu’s return and symbolizes continuity within the Priory after betrayal and war.
• Canthe
  Canthe is an Inysh mage who enters the Priory as a supposed refugee and ally. She is later revealed as the Witch of Inysca, the killer of Meren and thief of Wulf, manipulating Tunuva to reach the waning jewel.
• Saghul Yedanya
  Saghul is the aging Prioress before Esbar, troubled by waning devotion and the return of ancient threats. Her death and succession frame the Priory’s transition into open war.
• Cleolind Onjenyu
  Cleolind is the Priory’s founding Mother, remembered as the true figure who defeated the Nameless One. Her tomb hides the waning jewel and preserves the suppressed truth behind Western legend.
• Ninuru
  Ninuru is Tunuva’s speaking ichneumon, loyal mount, companion, and protector. He helps track Siyu, carries Tunuva and Wulf, and recognizes Wulf as Tunuva’s child by scent.
• Apaya
  Apaya is Esbar’s mother and a seasoned guide and protector. She assists the Priory’s pursuit of Siyu, supports Esbar’s investiture, and helps connect the Priory to wider southern defense.
• Gashan Janudin
  Gashan is a former Priory warrior turned Lasian court official. Her wavering faith strains trust, but she later coordinates Nzene’s defense and reveals the comet tablet that gives the South hope.
• Kediko Onjenyu
  Kediko is High Ruler of Lasia, skeptical of the Priory and dismissive of its warnings. His reluctance to lead heightens the burden on Esbar, Tunuva, and Gashan during Nzene’s siege.
• Dedalugun
  Dedalugun is the great wyrm that besieges Jrhanyam and Nzene. Its death at Lake Jodigo, achieved by Tunuva, Esbar, and Siyu, turns the southern front.
• Wulfert Glenn
  Wulfert Glenn is a Hróthi housecarl raised in Inys, later revealed as Tunuva’s stolen son Armul. He survives plague and shipwreck, fathers Glorian’s child in secret, saves newborn Sabran, and becomes a hidden link between Inys and the Priory.
• Glorian Berethnet
  Glorian is the daughter of Sabran VI and Bardholt, forced into queenship after their deaths. Pregnant during war, she becomes Glorian Shieldheart, rallies Inys, and secures the Berethnet line through Princess Sabran.
• Queen Sabran VI
  Sabran VI is Glorian’s mother and Queen of Inys, whose political marriage to Bardholt strengthens Virtudom. Her death in Fýredel’s attack forces Glorian’s sudden accession.
• King Bardholt Hraustr
  Bardholt is King of Hróth, Sabran’s husband, and Glorian’s father. His courage, counsel, and death shape both Glorian’s idea of rulership and Wulf’s later service.

  Princess Sabran is Glorian and Wulf’s newborn daughter, publicly presented as the heir of Inys. Wulf hides her during the siege and entrusts her with the secret truth of Cleolind.

  Fýredel is the black wyrm who kills Sabran VI and Bardholt, burns Ascalun and Arondine, and hunts Glorian. The comet’s star-rain extinguishes its fire, forcing it to withdraw while promising a future return.

  Lord Robart is Glorian’s regent after Sabran and Bardholt’s deaths. Exposed as a secret heathen tied to haithwood rites and Guma’s plot, he is removed from power and later found dead.

  The Nameless One is the ancient fire-dragon of foundational legend, defeated by Cleolind in the Priory’s account. The new wyrm crisis is repeatedly measured against this remembered terror.

  Anyso is the Carmenti outsider who loves Siyu and fathers Lukiri. His secret poisoning by the Priory becomes a source of guilt, flight, and rupture.
• Queen Daraniya
  Queen Daraniya is the Ersyri ruler whose realm suffers under wyrm attack. She works with the Priory during the southern war and evacuation efforts.
• Yeleni Janudin
