Summary
Inside a cold barrow, Wulf watches over the sleeping newborn Sabran, wrapped in his cloak. He focuses wholly on the child, tracing her features and speaking to her for the first time, soothing her as she stirs and opens green eyes.
Wulf recounts his own winding past and lineage, then reveals to Sabran the secret history: the Berethnet line was built on a lie and it was Princess Cleolind—not the vaunted king—who defeated the monster. He vows that this truth will live quietly within Sabran, an unseen ember to warm and guide her.
Overcome, Wulf kisses Sabran, prays to the Mother for a life free of haunted dreams, and wills her to remember his love. The sound of approaching hooves and cries of victory reaches the barrow, signaling a turn in the wider conflict.
Elsewhere on Cenning Moor, celebrations erupt as people across Inys step into sunlight unafraid of wyrmfire. Yet Queen Glorian, alone in her cave, weeps; a silver thread within her seems to unravel, and the familiar voice in her dreams falls silent.
